One Bright Moment

Springtime is waiting for friends to arrive
Green shoots are rising to soggy old skies
Snowflakes are melting
Old rivers run deep
Black bears are hungry
Awakening from sleep
The driftwood is piling itself on the beach
Waiting for the warmth of summer fires

I have cast my bread upon the waters
like wooden ships on rising tides
and I have given love
as surely it was taken
beneath the warmth of summer fires
