The Raven
The raven's cloak is black as coal
Blue as the night oif the Hida Gwaii
Eyes that flash like flint on stone
Full of secerets and shifting shapes
All the world was an endless night
Old Grey Eagle
Hid away the only light
Up in a lodge by a river bank
A box of light in a hidden place
Meant for only one man's eyes
Who's never seen his daughter's face
A raven shadow dances
As the old man spills the light
Waiting for the moment
Just like a thief in the night
Old raven
So the raven took on a human form
Unto the daughter a son was born
The source of all grandfather's joy
A box of light for a children's toy
Then shape shifting wings
Back to a bird of flight
In the blink of an eye
The raven steals the light
Wizand claws that seize the glow
Leaving lodges far below
Up with smoke in laboured flight
Dripping pieces of stolen light
Into the skies of the endless dark
Becoming the moon and the silver stars
The silver stars
The eagle follows the raven's flight
'Til he drops the orb at the edge of the skies
Then the falling light becomes
Hida peoples shining sun
And all the world
Was bathed in golden light
And Grey Eagle's daughter
She was a beautiful sight
So he didn't mind
